POEM (Peroral Endoscopic Myotomy) is an endoscopic procedure that addresses swallowing issues, most often achalasia. The procedure known as Peroral Endoscopic Myotomy, or POEM, was very recently developed. This in-patient procedure can be completed in one to three hours. Achalasia and other swallowing issues are often brought on by the muscles of the lower oesophagal sphincter and the oesophagus, which make it challenging to swallow and for food to pass into the stomach. In addition to difficulty swallowing, other symptoms including heartburn, weight loss, and an overall poor quality of life are also possible. Endoscopes are flexible tubes that may be placed through the mouth or throat. They allow medical professionals to see and examine the surfaces of the oesophagus (food pipe), stomach, intestine, and colon without creating a large incision elsewhere on the body. The fact that there are no incisions made in the chest or abdomen and that the hospital stay following the treatment is sometimes extremely brief or even nonexistent are benefits of undergoing an endoscopic surgery, particularly for swallowing problems.
